Hope is the emotional state which promotes the belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one's life. Despair is the opposite of hope. Charles Snyder, Ph.D, one of the first developers of positive psychology, embellished upon the overlaying topic of "hope" relaying its subject matter within a psychological construct. Snyder created his "hope theory" while on sabbatical from the University of Kansas. Instead of finding evidence in a book in the library, he was inspired to observe people and interact with them. Through his observations, Snyder was able to determine his own definition of "hope"; "Hope is the sum of the mental willpower and waypower that you have for your goals" Snyder continues his definition with these 3 underlying concepts:
Goals: "Goals are objects, experiences, or outcomes that we imagine and desire in our minds." Snyder determines that "the goals involving hope fall somewhere between an impossibility and a sure thing."
Willpower: "Willpower is the driving force in hopeful thinking" (pg.9) Willpower draws on the perception of our desired goal as well as one's mental energy. It also depends on how well we understand our goal. Within psychotherapy, techniques are used to hone in on one's desires and wishes, on how to focus on our goals, on how to obtain or attain them, "...based on tacit knowledge."
Waypower: "Waypower reflects the mental plans or road maps that guide hopeful thought" There are important versus less important goals that play a part in one's ability to plan through a goal, to map out a plan. Snyder says that hope is the "mental willpower and waypower for goals" Research has found that "persons with willpower thinking may not have waypower thoughts to their goals".Hope is the "feeling that what is wanted can be had or that events will turn out for the best" or the act of "look[ing] forward to something with desire and reasonable confidence" or "feel[ing] that something desired may happen". Other definitions are "to cherish a desire with anticipation"; "to desire with expectation of obtainment"; or "to expect with confidence". In the English language the word can be used as either a noun or a verb, although hope as a concept has a similar meaning in either use.

How to Survive a Disaster with Steve Rawles
Survivalism expert Jim Rawles discussed what we can do to prepare for disasters and catastrophes, particularly in the case of the power grid being knocked out. The greatest threat we face is from socioeconomic collapse, which could be triggered by mass inflation, leading to the dollar becoming worthless, he said. While the US has had local and regional disasters, we've never had a national event, such as an EMP attack or huge solar storm that would take down the entire grid. People need to be prepared and learn self-sufficiency in the event of such an outcome, he advised, adding that if there's severe damage to the power grid it could take years to restore service.
One of the most important things for preparation is a water filtration system-- "If you don't have water within 24 hours, you're going to be a refugee," he said. People in northern climates also have to consider heating issues, such as having a working fireplace and expedition-quality sleeping bags. He recommended that people have up to a three-year supply of food-- one year for themselves, and the rest to give to charity. Interestingly, he also suggested stockpiling nickels. In contrast to other current coins, the 5 cent pieces are made from copper and nickel, and may at some point in the future have some utility for barter, he said.
Low cost training options (such as through the Red Cross) can put you and your family ahead in your chance for survival, as well as joining local volunteer Fire Departments or ham radio clubs, where you can learn about the community and make important contacts, he continued. Rawles also suggested making a 'List of Lists': separate sheets of paper with various headings such as Food, Medicine, Self-Defense, and Communication; each page would have a list of topics they need to address for self-sufficiency.

What does spiritual awakening mean? While some people do experience a dramatic event (I know folks who have), I generally don't believe such violent, spontaneous awakening is common. In fact, I think that moving too quickly through awakening symptoms might be dangerous, as we might not be prepared yet to integrate the experience in our everyday lives.
So, as I tend to be grounded, achieving spiritual awakening to me is responding consistently and consciously to the inevitable tension that growth creates inside of us, meeting each opportunity fully, and ultimately integrating our experiences emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically over our lifetime.
Sometimes, an (often painful, always emotional) experience nudges us to go deeper when we don't think we're ready. Unexpectedly meeting a soulmate is one of those events... something that can ignite us and unleash feelings we've never had before. For me, this is one of the signs of spiritual awakening. The question is: what to do then?
Whether or not you buy the concept of reincarnation, we're all here to learn and grow. Our resistance to change causes pain. Acceptance releases it. When we're at a pivot-point, we can consciously lift the veil in order to connect deeper to the mysteries of life. Or, we can stubbornly hang on with white-knuckled fervor, to what was. The cool thing is, as we accept that we're changing inside — our external possibilities expand.

Before we get too smug about where we're at, Peck reminds us:
- While some of us may start at a certain stage and some may even move through the stages quickly, the stages cannot be skipped.
- Remnants of the previous levels remain within us all.
- Stages must be evaluated carefully (so you can have a Stage One con artist who pretends to be Stage Four, a structured Stage Two scientist who at first appears to be Stage Three, or a Stage Four mystic who goes to church).
- Potential for the ‘higher’ levels exist within us all, regardless of culture or background. And! It's possible to regress.
Stage One - Chaotic / antisocial
This is a stage of absent spirituality, and the people of this stage are unprincipled. While they're capable of pretending to be loving, actually all of their relationships are self-serving and manipulative. They're chaotic because, being unprincipled, they have no mechanism that might govern them other than their own will. Sometimes, these folks get in touch with their inner chaos, which is a very painful. When this happens, a Stage One may destroy themselves. Or...move into Stage Two where the signs of spiritual awakening manifest in a dramatic way which is often labled ‘born again’.Stage Two - Formal / institutional
In this stage, folks are dependent upon an institution for their governance. The institution may be a prison, a church, a business corporation or the military for example. Stage Two folks become very, very upset if someone starts changing forms or rituals and generally, they believe that God is an external being. The majority of churchgoers fall into Stage Two. Often, it's children of stable Stage Two parents who naturally move into Stage Three...where (counterintuitively), one of the signs of spiritual awakening is... skepticism.Stage Three - Skeptic / individual
These good folks are often scientists, atheists and/or truth seekers. They're deeply involved in society and make committed parents and leaders. Sometimes these truth seekers find enough pieces of life's puzzle to catch glimpses of the big picture... and they slowly realize that it strangely resembles many of the primitive myths held by their structured Stage Two parents. As they recognize their own signs of spiritual awakening, they begin to explore the possibilities of the next Stage Four...Stage Four - Mystical / communal
Mystics, Peck says, ‘are people who have seen a kind of cohesion beneath the surface of things’. Mystics of all cultures and religions have spoken of things in terms of unity and community. First, make your passwords are strong enough. The, make sure you're not storing your logins anywhere they could be easily discovered or stolen. For example, turn off your browser's automatic password-remembering functions, delete any saved login shortcuts (like cached VPN credentials), and shred any passwords you have written down. Instead, you can use password management software to help securely store and remember your username and password combinations.5. Secure your Internet connection.
Connect to networks using the highest level of security available, such as WPA2 for wireless networks. Connecting to unknown, open wireless networks is very risky. If only unsecured networks are available (e.g., at public wireless hotspots), take extra care with these steps:- Disable the "automatically connect to non-preferred networks" setting to make sure you connect only to approved wireless access points.
- Turn off file and printer sharing.
- Switch off your wireless card when not in use (how to do this will depend on your device; see the manufacturer's documentation).
- Use only VPN or other encrypted tunnels for business use (these instructions should be provided by your company's IT department).
- For safer, anonymous Web surfing, consider using a Web proxy or VPNs designed for consumer use.
6. Take steps to prevent the physical theft and loss of your devices themselves.
Keep an eye on your property when in public, use inconspicuous bags to carry your items (like a backpack holding your laptop in a protective sleeve), and, in general, try not to advertise that you have theft-worthy devices on hand. Hard-to-remove imprints or labels applied to cases, cable locks, and other security devices can also thwart would-be thieves.7. Be proactive about protecting your data and gear now.
If your laptop or other device does get stolen or lost, tracking services and recovery software products, as well as features such as remote wipe for BlackBerrys and other smartphones, can help you get it back--but you have to set up the software/service first (i.e., before your device disappears).Being mobile has so many benefits. Adequately preparing for the additional risks that portability presents can help give you peace of mind while you enjoy that freedom.
Nowadays, mobile phones are becoming like mobile computers. Mobile phones permit you to access the internet and email, download applications and games and store personal contacts, photos and information. You have to secure your phone in order to protect your personal information. Your mobile is made susceptible to viruses and malicious software by its features that also make your phone ‘smart’. If your phone is not secure and it is lost or stolen, your personal information like passwords, banking details, emails and photos could be used to access your money or to filch your identity.
- Turn on security features of your mobile phone. All phones have security settings so familiarize yourself with them and turn them on.
- Note down the details of your phone in case of stealing. Every phone has a unique International Mobile Equipment number (IEME). Most phones permit you to discover your own by keying in *#06#. If your phone is stolen, knowing this number will help your network provider to stop it being used.
- On your phone, don’t save passwords or PINs as contacts. It is appealing to save all the PINs and passwords in your phone as fake contacts in case you forget them as you have to remember them.
- Set and preserve strong passwords. Many mobile phones permit customers to set a password or personal Identification number (PIN) that must be entered to use the phone. If your phone is lost or stolen, Passwords and PINs make it more difficult for thieves to steal your personal information. Put a PIN on your SIM card so that thieves can’t steal your phone credit or run up your phone bill. Most mobile phones have an alternative to request a PIN each time you switch your phone on.
- When you do not use GPS, turn off it. GPS can give great benefits in searching out where you need to go, it can also be used by others to see where you or your phone is situated.
- Be smart with WiFi. Try to use an encrypted network that requires a password when connecting to the internet using WiFi.
- Check for updates to your phones in service system regularly. Install them as soon as possible because these updates contain changes that will make your phone more secure.
- Don’t open multimedia messages (MMS) or attachments in emails, or click on links in emails and SMS messages unless you are expecting them and they are from a trusted source. So, think before you click as they could contain malicious software or take you to a malicious website.
- Be careful, when you download the applications to your phone from the Web. Advanced mobile phones can have internet browsers that let you surf the web and download content to the phone. Do not download content for example applications from an unknown or unreliable source as they could contain malicious software. Utilize the application store or website of your mobile phone operating system or manufacturer to be safe.
- Install security software only from a reputable provider. Anti-virus and firewall software is available for some mobile phone operating systems and so check with your phone manufacturer for suggestions.
- When you not use Bluetooth, turn it off. Bluetooth allows you to connect devices wirelessly and it transfer information over short distances. Devices need to see each other for Bluetooth to work and then connect. It is best to leave bluetooth off until your phone in undiscoverable mode (hidden) so that it is only observable when you specifically need other people or devices to see it. Means hackers cannot see your mobile phone and they cannot connect to it unless they already have your Bluetooth address. Connect using Bluetooth in private and uncrowded areas only.
- Before selling your phone swipe the data clean: Also, make sure your phone carries absolutely no data if you’re selling your phone. Use the ‘Factory Reset’ feature of the phone to wipe off all your personal data after removing the SIM card and memory card, before handing the phone over to the buyer.
If your phone has been infected with malicious software if any of the following things have happened:
- The user interface has changed although you have not taken any action to change it.
- There is a sudden large raise in your phone bill with no clear reason.
- Your phone has emails and messages in the sent folder even if you did not send it.

YOU ARE BEING TRACKED THROUGH YOUR CELL PHONE! How To Disable Your GPS Tracker Today!
There’s a good chance that your smart phone is loaded with root-level spyware installed—not by a malicious internet source, but by your phone provider. Find out how to detect and remove it to increase performance and privacy.
Background: the web has been abuzz for the last week with talk of Caller IQ, a root-level application installed on millions of smart phones including most Android smart phones, BlackBerry units, and iPhones. Not all phones are affected, and at least Verizon has denied using Caller IQ on any of their phones, but there are plenty of phones which are.
The above video is a demonstration by Trevor Eckhart, the Android developer that discovered the application and publicized what it was up to–watch the video to get a better feel for the reach this application has.
The application has sweeping privileges and can access everything you do on your phone. Although cell providers have denied using the application for anything malicious the reality is that the app is quite capable of enabling deep level surveillance without any indication to the end user that their privacy is being compromised.
We don’t know about you, but we’re not comfortable taking the word of a company that they’re not accessing our private data, text messages, and other phone contents when Caller IQ makes it trivially easy to do so–and to remain completely undetected in the process. So the best case scenario is that your provider is not actively collecting data on you, but the Caller IQ rootkit is wasting precious battery life and clock cycles; the worst case scenario is that, unbeknownst to you, it’s radically compromising your privacy in ways you never authorized.
iPhone users have it easy; they can simply navigate to Settings -> General -> About -> Diagnostics and Usage and then toggle it to “Don’t Send”. Android users will need to dig much deeper: if you’re ready to check your phone and remove the Caller IQ installation (something you can’t do simply by uninstalling an app from your system menu as the carriers have made the application invisible to the end user) we highly recommend checking out Lifehacker’s thorough write up covering detection and removal at the link below.

Why are you looking at CarrierIQ for information and not HTC? Look at how many devices have Carrier IQ hidden. HTC is just including 3rd party software. They have privacy policies everywhere for their programs, this is not just an HTC/Android issue.
